Developing the Automated Vehicles Framework
Frameworks must be updated to explicitly reflect the capabilities, limits and lifecycle management of automated driving systems, ensuring safe and commercially viable deployment of early logistics focused use cases such as hub to hub HGV movements, automated depot operations and last mile services.
Clear, robust requirements for cyber security, software governance, data recording and safe
fallback behaviour are essential.
A predictable, aligned regime, supported by existing type approval evidence, consistent
interfaces, independent investigation and proportionate sanctions will give operators confidence, reduce risk and enable the logistics sector to adopt Automated Vehicle (AV) technology safely, efficiently and at scale.
